Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur rival Newcastle United for Bayern Munich star Corentin Tolisso
According to Liverpool World, Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out with Newcastle United for the signature of Bayern Munich star Corentin Tolisso in the summer transfer window. The two Premier League sides are planning to bolster their midfield with additions, which has prompted them to target him right now.
Tolisso will leave the Allianz Arena on a free transfer when his contract with Bayern Munchen expires this summer. That has alerted several clubs, with Tottenham and Newcastle having registered their interest in signing the central midfielder ahead of the next season.
Liverpool were also keen to facilitate a transfer move for the French international in the past. However, they may potentially decide to make use of this opportunity and rekindle their interest in the next few weeks. Antonio Conte’s side will need to be wary of them as well if they plan to sign him this summer.
Doubts over Tolisso?
It is understandable why the North Londoners are targeting a central midfielder looking at the potential departures that could happen this summer. The likes of Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele could make way for new arrivals as their futures are in uncertain waters at this moment.
That means we are left with just Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Oliver Skipp as our midfield options ahead of the next term. That is not ideal at all, as the risk of injuries or suspensions in a long season filled with congested schedules would seriously test our depth moving forward.
Hence, Spurs’ pursuit of Tolisso does make sense, especially when he would not dent their transfer budget for this summer. Signing him would also mean that the saved sum can be used to strengthen our areas in the squad like the centre-back, for example, as we try to back Conte in his attempt to bring success to N17.
However, there are major concerns over Tolisso, considering how he had just 1069 minutes under his belt with Bayern in the previous campaign. Injuries of different nature have seriously hampered his chances of returning to his best self which does raise question marks over his pursuit.

The 27-year-old’s current situation is not a one-off either, as it has been a repeating picture over the past few seasons or so. Hence, perhaps it would be best if we turn our attention toward other options who can be more dependable.
However, if Conte is adamant that he wants Tolisso in his ranks, Fabio Paratici must bring him to the squad at the earliest. The Magpies would pose a considerable threat as they are looking to replicate what Manchester City had done following their takeover. We should also be wary of the Reds, who may decide to reignite their interest in the midfielder.
