Gabriel Jesus “very close” to joining Arsenal amidst Tottenham Hotspur transfer interest

According to Brazilian journalist Rodrigo Oliveira via Calciomercato.it, as quoted by Sport Witness (h/t Daily Mail Online), Gabriel Jesus is “very close” to joining Arsenal this summer amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur for a potential transfer. After scoring a goal in Brazil’s recent 5-1 victory over South Korea, the striker confirmed that he would assess the options ahead of him from this Tuesday.

Jesus’s future at Etihad is surrounded by uncertainty at this moment, which has attracted attention from “four other top sides” alongside the two North London clubs. The Gunners have ramped up their efforts to sign him as Alexandre Lacazette is set to join Olympique Lyonnais for free this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s side and Jesus are eager to reunite with each other, which would deal a damning blow to Spurs. Furthermore, a transfer for the Brazilian would be facilitated if bids are made in the region of €50million to €60million.

Jesus to Arsenal, done deal?

If the 25-year-old has made up his mind about moving to Emirates, then there is nothing much we can do to convince him about joining us. After all, he already knows at this point how our bitter rivals would not be able to offer Champions League football in the next season.

So perhaps, the South American is not affected by the prospect of missing out on the CL in the next campaign. Furthermore, his decision could potentially be affected by game time as earning regular minutes could be quite difficult looking at the competition for places at Manchester City from the next term.

The same can be said regarding a move to N17, considering how we already have a starting trio comprising Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski. They have formed quite a chemistry in a short period, and disrupting that connection by adding Jesus to the starting lineup would not be expected if he does sign for us.

Since Lacazette is in line to join Lyon this summer, and following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exit last January, Jesus is likely to earn more than enough opportunities with Arteta’s team. That is the case even if Eddie Nketiah is expected to renew his current contract.

Hence, it seems that we may be forced to look elsewhere if this news is believed to be true. Then again, Jesus has revealed that he will consider his options from the next week onwards, so perhaps we could still have some time to make a final stand before he takes a firm decision.

If the Man City ace does decide to join Arsenal, there is no doubt that they would be strengthened with his quality. So we must be prepared to deal with that threat if a move can be finalised this summer.
