Tanguy Ndombele looks likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur as exit talks are underway

According to the French news channel Telefoot (h/t The Mirror), Tanguy Ndombele is seemingly likely to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer as talks over an exit are already underway. He was sent on loan to Olympique Lyonnais last January after falling out of favour under Antonio Conte.

Ndombele’s future with Tottenham remains uncertain even now, following his mixed loan spell with Lyon. He rose to make a name for himself in France but could not replicate that same form after returning to Ligue 1 in the winter transfer window. As such, he is looking to leave N17 for good on a permanent move soon enough.

Apparently, an “unnamed” Spanish side is planning to sign the Frenchman and is ‘in negotiations’ over a move. Moreover, a deal appears to be imminent, although it is still unknown whether they want to take him away permanently or on loan ahead of the next season.

Ndombele to be sold this summer?

There were huge expectations of the 25-year-old when he was signed from Lyon for a club-record fee of £53.8million back in 2019. However, other than flashes of brilliance or some consecutive displays at a particular phase, he has never seemed to live up to the price tag that we paid for his services.

What makes matters worse is how the cost incurred could have risen to £62.8million through bonuses. It is frustrating to see how the Spurs ace’s time with us has turned out to be since his transfer, as it seems like the entire money has gone down the drain as of now.

However, Daniel Levy remains keen to recoup the amount that the North London side paid for Ndombele’s signature. That could be difficult, looking at the Premier League midfielder’s performances, although it remains to be seen if there are further updates on this newfound interest.

The fans would hope that the unknown Spanish outfit would be willing to take away Ndombele once and for all, as he seems not to have a spot in the team. It would be quite shocking to see him return to contention following his antics in the FA Cup fixture against Morecambe last term.

However, nothing is guaranteed just yet as there are doubts over whether the move that is being discussed is a loan or a permanent transfer. Furthermore, it is claimed that Ndombele’s high salary is set to cause problems for the interested parties, which means that he would need to take a pay cut just as he did in January.

The same can be said for Conte’s side, as they had included a £55.5million optional clause for Lyon to trigger if they wanted to sign Ndombele permanently. Expecting clubs to pay anywhere near close to that is unreasonable when he has not warranted anything to endure that cost. Moreover, banking on a successful loan spell is not ideal either, which means that we may need to accept some losses after all.
