Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur are willing to sell Lucas Moura this summer

According to The Express, Tottenham Hotspur have shown their intention to part ways with Lucas Moura in this summer transfer window. He was a regular starter for Antonio Conte at one point but has lost the prominence following Dejan Kulusevski’s signing last January.

Moura has a contract with Tottenham until 2024, and he wants to fulfil that deal to the very end. Despite that, they have open to entertaining proposals for the attacker should such offers meet their expectations this summer.

That could potentially lead to a clash of plans which would not be ideal for maintaining harmony within the squad. Then again, there are no risks for that just yet as not one single club has registered their interest in signing the Brazilian until this point.

A surprising stance from Spurs?

It is quite shocking to see Antonio Conte’s side take this decision when there are no other options to replace the 29-year-old in our ranks. We must have a good depth of options moving forward if there are plans to challenge on multiple fronts in the upcoming campaign.

Kulusevski has firmly cemented his dominance over the starting spot, but Moura would provide healthy competition for that place. Furthermore, we would also engage in several different competitions at once in the next season, giving us all the more reason to keep hold of the latter.

Then again, with Moura nearing the twilight of his playing career, it is understandable why Spurs may cash in on the winger as it could be their final chance to get the maximum financial boost out of him. Then again, our primary objective should always depend on sporting success, so there is no need to sell him unless we find a replacement.

Keeping Moura in the team would also offer Conte a different option which could be useful in different scenarios during a particular game. Kulusevski, for example, is more direct in his creative plays, while Moura is much more involved in the build-up and progression of the ball through the middle.

Having players of varied profiles is always helpful for the Italian manager as he can tweak things up to suit his tactics as required. With Moura also looking forward to remaining at N17, it would be best to keep hold of him as we may not get another player who would be content despite playing second fiddle in the second half of the previous season.
