Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur sign goalkeeper Josh Keeley from St Patrick’s Athletic

According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have signed goalkeeper Josh Keeley from St Patrick’s Athletic in this summer transfer window. He will be joining the developmental academy set-up after earning rave reviews for his performances at the youth level for his side.

Tottenham have already completed two transfers in the form of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster this summer. Now, they have made another one, although it will be for their academy with Keeley joining them ahead of the next season.

Keeley had undergone trials at several other clubs, but Spurs have become the ones who convinced him to make the jump. The Republic of Ireland prospect had tried out with Everton, Leicester City and Aston Villa twice and with Aberdeen once but eventually decided to ply his trade with Antonio Conte’s side.

Who is Josh Keeley?

A talented shot-stopper, the 19-year-old has often dominated in between the posts at the youth level with his huge physique. Standing 6ft 3ins tall, it is no wonder why we have completed a move for Keeley, as he could prove to be a future superstar under the right circumstances.

The Irishman had played a solid role in helping his youth side win the SSE Airtricity National U19 League title last season. His performances also earned him a two-year professional contract with St Patrick’s last January, but he has jumped ship to a bigger challenge right now.

Keeley has already made senior appearances for the Irish outfit, which indicates that he may be ready to take it up a notch to play regularly at a higher level. In fact, his addition has come at a perfect time looking at the exits we had in that position at the developmental set-ups.

The likes of Kacper Kurylowicz, Thimothee Lo-Tutala, Josh Oluwayemi and Isak Solberg have been allowed to leave for free this summer. While they haven’t been up to the mark, it is important to replace them with quality talents like Keeley for a better future.

We still have not found a reliable option to replace Hugo Lloris in the long term, so perhaps Keeley can take up that role should he continue to improve in this manner. There is quite a long road ahead to reach that stage, so we have to ensure that the youngster is provided with the right tools as it would benefit us in the end as well.

The way Harry Kane came up and never let any manager after his debut worry about Spurs’ starting centre-forward is something our fans would be begging for in the goalkeeping position with our French veteran’s career in the final years.
