Arsenal have reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Tottenham target Gabriel Jesus

Manchester City striker and Tottenham target Gabriel Jesus is said to be close to joining Arsenal in what could put an end to a drawn-out saga surrounding the in-demand striker.

Our rivals have reached an agreement with the Cityzens for the Brazilian’s transfer to the Emirates for £45 million, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic (Subscription Required).

The Gunners are on course to secure his signing, but there are still certain aspects to be resolved. Mikel Arteta is said to have the 25-year-old at the top of his wishlist for this summer.

Spurs and Chelsea were also interested in signing the Brazilian striker, but it seems our city rivals are close to signing the Sky Blues’ striker. With Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang having left for Barcelona in January and Alexandre Lacazette leaving the club this summer, they were always going to go for a striker this summer.

Did Spurs miss out?

Tottenham under Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici have secured some big signings this summer. Some decent additions have been made to the squad as the club from North London look to compete for titles next season.

Missing out on Jesus wouldn’t worry fans as Spurs’ attack for next season already has enough strength. With Harry Kane leading our line alongside Son Heung-min, the Lilywhites will be confident about their chances going into next season.

Son shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah last season and Kane is a proven goalscorer. Their partnership is one that needs no introduction either. So, the club can be confident on the goalscoring front.

Gabriel Jesus would have been a good backup to Kane.

Dejan Kulusevski and new signing Ivan Perisic will also be vying for a place in the squad, while the futures of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura are uncertain.

Spurs do miss a backup striker to give our vice-captain a rest on occasions or to take his place up front when the English striker is out injured. But fans will hope Dane Scarlett can step up next season and prove himself at the club.

Jesus wouldn’t have got the opportunities to start many games had he signed for us, and with the World Cup round the corner, it could have jeopardised his chances for a place in Brazil’s squad.

By that logic, it wouldn’t have made sense to switch the PL champions for us if he wasn’t going to get assured gametime here. At Arsenal, he just might.
