Middlesbrough demand £15 million plus add-ons for Tottenham target Djed Spence

Tottenham Hotspur are unwilling to pay the price Middlesbrough are demanding for Djed Spence this summer. according to The Sun, Spurs are looking to negotiate a fee lesser than the £15 million plus add-ons Boro want for their star full-back,

Even though the 21-year-old is confident that the two clubs will reach an agreement, this could put the transfer to North London in doubt. Other teams in the Premier League and Europe are also said to be keeping tabs on the young full-back.

Antonio Conte is said to be looking at options for the right wing-back spot and Spence is said to be admired by the Lilywhites. The youngster has shown enough promise to suggest that he can hack it in the Premier League.

On loan at Nottingham Forest last season, the 21-year-old was one of the best players in the Championship as he helped the Tricky Trees win promotion to the Premier League.

Focusing on other positions

With the Spence transfer taking considerable time, it’s taking focus away from the other positions Tottenham need to strengthen this transfer window. Currently, centre-back is a major concern as Conte doesn’t seem to trust many in the squad.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon weren’t able to get into the team regularly last season. It seems the Italian manager doesn’t fancy them. Ben Davies, a natural left-back, had played in one of the centre-back positions for the majority of the 2021/22 campaign under Conte.

Tottenham need to focus on getting a centre-back.

Cristian Romero alongside Eric Dier are the only ones that seem to have a place in the team currently. But the Argentinian centre-backs season has been hampered by injuries and he hasn’t been able to play as much as fans would’ve liked.

With the likes of Milan Skriniar linked with a move to the club, it would be smart to wrap up the Spence deal as soon as possible and turn our focus to getting a defender.

If the Boro are unwilling to negotiate, Spurs should pull out and focus on our other targets. Not signing the 21-year-old right full-back wouldn’t be as bad as it seems.

While our Italian boss doesn’t seem to trust Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty, they proved their worth in the final stages of the season. But it remains to be seen whether they can continue to be dependable next season.

If Spence does end up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it will be interesting to see how Conte uses the options he has on the right.
