Oliver Skipp is back in Tottenham pre-season training following a long-term injury

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp is back in training after missing out on the second half of last season due to injury, according to The Athletic(subscription required).

This will come as a relief to both coach Antonio Conte and the player. Skipp last played for Spurs in their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in January. A lingering pelvis injury that was not meant to be so serious kept the youngster off the field for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Skipp had become a regular starter for both Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte. He had been enjoying a fine campaign until the injury came along. Hopefully, he will continue from where he left off next season.

It was his injury which made Conte sign midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus on the last day of the January transfer window. The former Juventus man has been a revelation, impressing for Spurs on a regular basis.

A redemption this season?

Bentancur formed a formidable partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park for Spurs. Now, Skipp will be looking to reclaim his position back. To add more competition to the midfield department, Conte has also signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion.

A Spurs youth academy product, Skipp was promoted to the senior team in 2018. At just 21 years old, the English midfielder has made over 50 appearances for the club in all competitions.

Pre-season for the majority of the players begins next Monday, i.e July 4; but Skipp has already began a pre-pre-season at Hotspur Way today along with Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty, who are also returning from injury.

If all goes to plan, Skipp could head to South Korea on July 9, with the rest of the squad for two pre-season friendlies. He will be looking forward to it as he will have the chance to show Conte that he is fit and good enough to start games for him.
