Transfer News: Fiorentina are interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is a target for Serie A club Fiorentina this transfer window. The Italian side is interested in bringing the Argentinian to the Artemio Franchi Stadium, according to La Nazione and Tuttosport via Sport Witness (h/t football.london).

The 26-year-old has been earmarked by the Florence-based side, who want to sign Lo Celso this summer.

The former PSG and Real Betis midfielder came to North London in 2019 after impressing in La Liga. Lo Celso’s move to Tottenham was exciting at the time as the Argentine playmaker was seen as the future of our midfield.

Lo Celso should stay at Spurs

But his time with Spurs has been inconsistent as the 26-year-old has failed to establish himself in the team under various managers. After not playing much under Antonio Conte, Lo Celso was loaned out to Villarreal in January.

With the Yellow Submarine, the 26-year-old became one of the critical members of Unai Emery’s side as they made it to the Champions League semi-finals against all odds. Lo Celso became the Spanish side’s playmaker in an attacking midfield role.

In his 6 months in La Liga with the La Liga side, the Argentinian played 22 games for the Yellow Submarines, starting all six games in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Considering we need a player of Lo Celso’s quality in the side, it would be wise for our Italian manager to keep the Argentinian in and around the squad. Tottenham don’t need to splash the cash on another midfielder after the signing of Yves Bissouma with the 26-year-old at the club.

If played in the right position, the Argentinian could prove to be an ace for Conte to rely on. While there doesn’t seem to be a position under our current system for Lo Celso, the left-footed midfielder has what it takes to be an asset for this team.

It remains to be seen whether the Italian opts to keep the Argentine in the squad for next season. If Lo Celso does move, Spurs need to go out in the market and fill the hole his departure will leave in the squad.

Yes, we have signed Bissouma this summer but it is important to remember that Tanguy Ndombele doesn’t have the trust of Conte while Dele Alli was sold last January. Squad depth is important if we want to challenge for trophies on all fronts.
