Tottenham Hotspur admire Leicester City star Youri Tielemans
While speaking to Chris Cowlin via This Is Football (h/t Leicestershire Live), Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have always admired Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.
The journalist stated that people shouldn’t be surprised if, in the future, the Belgian playmaker is a name Spurs looked at to strengthen their midfield. However, Bridge is conscious about not claiming anything and just mentions that the 25-year-old’s name is one that is ‘admired’ at Tottenham.
“Don’t be surprised if they might have another look at him maybe down the line,”
“I’m not saying that there have been any bids, but I know there’s always been people at the club that have admired him, even back in the Poch era. Is there something they could do there? I don’t know.”
The Sky Sports journalist believes the midfielder has a profile Spurs are keen to look at. From what he’s heard, Bridge sees the Belgian as someone whose future is uncertain and a move to the North London side is something not to be completely ruled out.
“He’s an attacking-minded midfielder that Tottenham are keen to look at. I don’t think that’d be anywhere near, but that’s someone that I have heard not to completely rule out in future.”
Tottenham are currently looking at building a title-winning squad for Antonio Conte. The Italian manager has been backed since his arrival in November. Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur were the 52-year-old’s first major signings in January.
Tielemans a forward-thinking player
Tielemans is a player that has seen his stock rise since moving from Monaco to the Premier League in 2019. The forward-thinking midfielder has been one of the Foxes’ best players since his arrival.
In 158 appearances for Leicester, the Belgian has 48 goal involvements to his name. Last season the 25-year-old was a constant in Brendan Rodger’s side, being involved in 50 games in all competitions.
Currently, Spurs have Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the holding role alongside Bentancur, who has more freedom to go forward. The Uruguayan has impressed fans since his arrival from Juventus.
Youngster Oliver Skipp has been impressive coming into the first team and has proven to be a solid option in the squad. Pepe Matar Sarr is also at the club, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
There is talk about the futures of Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele at the club, but the club will be wise to keep the former at the club. Yves Bissouma is the new addition to the squad this year.
