Tottenham Hotspur new boy Richarlison banned for one game after lobbing flare at Goodison last season
Richarlison, who recently signed for Tottenham Hotspur from Everton, has been banned for the opening game of the season for lobbing a flare at Goodison Park last season, according to The Sun.
During the Toffees’ pivotal win over Chelsea back in May when the Merseyside club were flirting with relegation, the Brazilian scored the only goal of the game in the 46th minute. During the celebrations, a lit flare was thrown onto the pitch, which the 25-year-old picked up.
This means Richarlison will miss the North London side’s opening game of the season against Southampton on 6 August. The player was also fined for the misconduct by the FA.
Richarlison joined Tottenham from Everton for £50million plus £10million in add-ons. The 25-year-old will be looking forward to linking up with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at Spurs. Fans will now have to wait a bit to get the first glimpse of the striker on the field.
Richarlison scored 10 goals for the Toffees in a season where the Everton faithful gasped throughout. After sacking Rafael Benitez and appointing Frank Lampard, the club looked to set things straight but were nevertheless sucked into a relegation fight.
The Brazilian was key in the historic club surviving by the end of the campaign. He had 10 goals and 5 assists for the team in 30 Premier League games. The striker has built up a decent partnership over the years with fellow striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the English forward was injured for most of last season and Richarlison stepped up to the task when needed.
Tottenham fans will now hope Richarlison can click a partnership with two of the best players in the world. Playing alongside Kane and Son will either make or break his game and it’ll be interesting to see how the 25-year-old handles the pressure and competition from other players in the squad.
Fans will certainly get behind the spirited striker and make him feel welcomed. The striker will now be eligible in the Premier League only on 13 August when Tottenham visit Stamford Bridge.
