Gabby Agbonlahor: Tottenham Hotspur are better equipped to win Premier League over Chelsea
Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking on talkSPORT (h/t football.london), picked Tottenham Hotspur over Chelsea to be challenging for the Premier League title next season.
The former Aston Villa striker doesn’t feel the Blues have enough quality players up front to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. The 35-year-old goes on to add that Spurs are better suited to challenge last year’s top two.
“I would say Tottenham are better suited to challenge the top two than Chelsea.”
Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel have been a brilliant side, but they are in a rebuilding phase right now. Tottenham under Antonio Conte have gone from strength to strength and are enjoying a brilliant summer transfer window.
The Blues had the third-best defensive record in the league last term. But currently, Chelsea are without some of their defenders from last season as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen left the Stamford Bridge club at the end of their contracts.
Up front, Romelu Lukaku was the London-based side’s top scorer with 15 goals in all competitions. The Belgian had a disappointing season and returned to Inter Milan on loan. Chelsea are yet to address these issues this summer.
Tottenham have strengthened the squad.
Spurs, however, have strengthened the side in areas that needed attention. We’ve signed attackers, midfielders and defenders. And more signings seem to be on the way.
Our most high-profile addition this summer as of now has been Richarlison. The 25-year-old has established himself over the years in English football. Along with other additions up front, we also boast two of the best forwards in the world right now in Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
The midfield has seen the addition of Yves Bissouma. Last season, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was one of our best players. Rodrigo Bentancur arrived in January and had an immediate impact. The defence has also seen reinforcement with the arrival of Clement Lenglet.

Tottenham fans will certainly feel we have the team and the manager to compete for titles next season. Conte and the hierarchy at the club are building something special. Hopefully, there is success at the end of the tunnel for us.
