Hugo Lloris happy to have Clement Lenglet join Tottenham Hotspur on season-long loan from Barcelona

Speaking to football.london, Hugo Lloris shared his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur signing Clement Lenglet from Barcelona. The Spurs captain is happy to see his compatriot arrive in North London.

The 27-year-old France international is a capable left-footed centre-back. Plying his trade in one of the biggest teams in Europe before coming to Tottenham, Lenglet is an experienced addition to the squad.

Lloris expressed his delight at the arrival of his French compatriot to the club. Unfortunately, the 27-year-old was unable to travel with the team to South Korea and is preparing in London. The captain would have liked to see Lenglet train with the squad.

“About Clement, I’m really happy. Obviously I would have preferred him to be here with the team but it was not to be and he is working very hard to make sure he is going to be ready to work with the team soon.”

Antonio Conte didn’t have many options for his back three last season. Cristian Romero was out injured for most of the season. The Argentinian’s quality shone through whenever he featured.

Ben Davies was used as a centre-back on the left of the backline by the Italian. The Welshman’s natural position is at left-back. But Conte trusted the 29-year-old over the other options.

Lenglet’s arrival now gives the gaffer a player for the left centre-back position. Lloris describes him as a modern defender and praises the defender’s ability on the ball and in one vs one situation.

“As a player I think he’s a modern defender, comfortable to be able to play from the back, he has a great left foot and he can be very strong in one vs one and he’s strong in the air.”

The French centre-back is going to get his first experience of Premier League football next season. England’s first-tier is considered a tough league to adapt to. But Lenglet is experienced enough to take the challenge.

Conte’s options for next season will certainly include Eric Dier. The defender was the leader of our backline and organised the team. The England international played a major part in us finishing fourth.
