Paul Merson picks Tottenham Hotspur signing Ivan Perisic to surprise everyone with his performances next season
Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Ivan Perisic will surprise people with his performances for Tottenham Hotspur next season. The Croatian was signed on a free transfer after leaving Inter Milan at the end of his contract.
Perisic joined the Nerazzurri in 2015 and slowly established himself as one of the best wingers in the world. A loan move to Bayern Munich in the 2019/20 season also proved successful.
Merson, via Sportskeeda (h/t football.london), gave his opinion on the Croatian signing for Spurs. The former Gooner revealed himself to be a massive fan of the 33-year-old. The Arsenal legend admires the player’s work rate and dedication.
“Ivan Perisic to be one of the surprise stars of the season. I keep going on and on about this, but I’m a massive fan of Ivan Perisic.”
Perisic has played in some of the best sides in the world. The Croatian was not just part of these big squads, he was a big part of the success at these clubs- winning the leagues in Germany and Italy as well as the Champions League with Bayern.
Perisic familiar with Conte
Under Antonio Conte, Tottenham have spent big and are building something special. Fans now sense an aspiration to win within the club, which had been missing for several years. We finally look like a side with a plan to challenge for every title.
Perisic is a signing familiar with Conte and his style. The Italian won the scudetto with the Croatian in the 2020/21 season. So the gaffer knows what the 33-year-old brings to the table.
“He’s different class and gives Conte the option of playing as a left-wing back and a winger, making him an invaluable asset to the
squad.”
It remains to be seen in which position Conte deploys the versatile Croatian. Perisic has mostly played as a left-winger. But under the Italian at Inter, the 33-year-old played a bit deeper and still thrived.
The crowd in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be rallying the side to win silverware next season. The club has invested in new signings in the attack, midfield and defence.
