Tim Sherwood believes Antonio Conte will be expected to win at Tottenham Hotspur next season
Speaking to 888sport (h/t Mirror), former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood believes Antonio Conte will be expected to win now that the club have spent considerable money this summer transfer window.
Spurs have splashed the cash and signed some quality players. The business in this window has been done in a quick and efficient manner. The new recruits will certainly add the strength in depth required for the long season ahead.
Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur were signed from Juventus on deadline day in January. The two got off to a quick start in English football. They’ve made an immediate impact on the side. Sherwood feels the former Juventus pair’s success has given the hierarchy confidence to spend more.
“I think there’s some good signings there, some proven winners. I think Antonio has given them a taste of it in January when [Dejan] Kulusevski was good and [Rodrigo] Bentancur looks like he’s settling in. He’s making good signings.”
Tottenham have strengthened the side in every position. The attack saw the addition of Richarlison. The midfield has been bolstered with the arrival of Yves Bissouma from Brighton. Clement Lenglet gives Conte another option in defence.
It seems like there’ll be more business done by the end of the window. Djed Spence is close to joining the North London club. Fabio Paratici has been busy alongside Daniel Levy this summer.
With so much confidence being shown in Conte, it’s natural that the hierarchy as well as the fans expect something special at the end of next season. Sherwood believes Conte is a proven winner but also admits that the pressure is on now.
“The pressure’s on now. Once the chairman gives you the tools to work with, you need to go and win and I think Antonio knows that. That’s what he is. He’s a winner, that’s what he’s used to doing.”
Conte certainly knows how to win titles. The Italian has had successful spells in the Serie A with Juventus and Inter Milan, winning several Scudettos. He’s also won the Premier League with Chelsea.
Spurs haven’t won silverware in 14 years now. The last title win came back in 2008 as we lifted the League Cup. It’s been decades since the club have won a league title. We’ve come close though in recent years to lifting silverware.
