Tottenham Hotspur target Paulo Dybala is close to joining AS Roma

Paulo Dybala is set to join Roma, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t football.london). The Argentine had been close to moving to Tottenham Hotspur back in 2019.

After leaving Juventus at the end of his contract, Dybala has been on the market as a free agent this summer. But it looks like the 28-year-old is set to stay in Italy as a move to Rome has been agreed.

Dybala has agreed to a contract until 2025 with the Serie A club. Jose Mourinho was key in convincing the Argentine to move to Rome. The 28-year-old is now set to link up with the former Spurs boss.

Dybala was one of the brightest talents in world football until his career suffered a setback at Juventus. Being the talisman for the Bianconeri, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and an injury issue in the 2020/21 season saw his stock go down.

Overall, the Argentine had an impressive record for the Old Lady, scoring 115 goals and providing 48 assists in 293 appearances.

Tottenham have a strong attack

Tottenham have heavily invested in the squad this summer, adding both quality and depth to their roster. A move for a mercurial talent like Dybala wouldn’t have been surprising considering our transfer business.

But fans won’t be disappointed at having missed out on the 28-year-old. He hasn’t been at his best in recent years and Spurs now have several options in the forward line to call upon.

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are arguably among the best attackers in the world. The two have lit up North London with their talent for years now. Their goals were a big reason for Tottenham finishing fourth.

In January, Dejan Kulusevski arrived with a point to prove from Juventus and has done exactly that. The Swedish national has had an immediate impact on English football’s first tier.

Richarlison has been added to the team this summer. Conte also has other options at his disposal. A move for Dybala would’ve been appreciated by the fans but it’s something the team doesn’t necessarily require to challenge for titles next season.
