Liverpool star Fabinho praises Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer business this summer

Liverpool midfielder Fabinho Tavares has praised Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer business so far this summer. Speaking to the Athletic (Subscription Required), the former AS Monaco star said:

“I think it will be a really good battle with them [Manchester City], but not just them. Tottenham have bought some good players, Arsenal too with Gabriel Jesus going there, Chelsea too. Everyone has been reinforcing because everyone wants to beat City.”

Fabinho recognises that Spurs are now making an effort to really challenge for the big titles next season. Antoni Conte helped us finish fourth last season, thereby helping us qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

When Nuno Espirito Santo was in charge, such an end to the season looked unlikely. Manchester United and Arsenal are never easy teams to beat over a season but we finished above both of them.

This is Conte’s first summer at Spurs and it is clear he wants to stamp his identity on the team. After signing Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus last January, he has been far more proactive in June and July.

Spurs have already added superstars such as Ivan Perisic, Richarlison Andrade, Yves Bissouma, Fraser Forster, Clement Lenglet (loan) and Djed Spence. The English right-back has officially been officially announced as our sixth signing this summer.

In that regard, Fabinho’s comments make sense. Spurs are a team that the top three in the PL, namely Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea must watch out for.

Whether we have another signing up our sleeves remains to be seen. But even if we ended the current window with what we have now, it would still fill Spurs fans with confidence ahead of next season.
