Ryan Sessegnon reveals what tips he has received from Tottenham Hotspur newboy Ivan Perisic

Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic could be vying amongst themselves to be regular starters in Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur starting XI next season.

The young English full-back has done well for himself since leaving Fulham. But still 22, Sessegnon still has a lot to learn in order to fulfil his potential.

One way to do that is getting to train and converse with the veteran players already present at the club. Spurs recently signed Perisic on a free transfer after the Croatian star ran down his contract at Inter Milan.

For the past several years, Perisic has excelled at what Sessegnon would want to do down the flanks. The 2018 FIFA World Cup finalist is a potent attacker who likes hugging the touchline as well as helping out in defence.

And Sessegnon now reveals in an interview (h/t Football.London) that Perisic has already given him little tips on how to improve his game at the club. The former Bayern Munich star is 33 and can’t keep playing forever.

“I can learn a lot from him technically, mentally and physically. He’s already helped me with little pointers, tips about the way to affect the game more in an attacking sense and score more goals. Being in the box at the right time more often when the ball’s on the other side, being smart, using my brain, communicating a bit more.”

If he becomes a regular under Conte, Ryan Sessegnon would then be his natural understudy and/or successor. Physical strength and stamina are important for Premier League full-backs, given the quality of attackers they can come up against in England and Europe.

Conte wouldn’t have brought in Perisic if he only planned to let him warm the bench. The former Juventus boss likes to play with attacking wing-backs, and Perisic was a key component of his Scudetto-winning side in the 2021/21 season.

With Djed Spence now at N17, it seems that Conte is planning a system where Spurs attack with vigour down the flanks. If that is the case, then it would come as good news for Sessegnon in the long run, given the Englishman’s proclivity to attack whenever he has the chance.
