Tottenham Hotspur working on the summer acquisition of Memphis Depay

According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Daily Express), Tottenham Hotspur have already started working on their seventh transfer target, Memphis Depay after completing the transfer of Djed Spence.

With the unveiling of Spence, Tottenham Hotspur have completed their sixth summer signing after a spree of top-notch acquisitions in the past two months. Antonio Conte has certainly been backed to the hilt this summer.

The club’s marquee summer acquisition is Richarlison, who was purchased for an incredible £60 million from Everton. The North London club signed Yves Bissouma from Brighton. While Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster arrived as free agents. Spurs also signed Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona.

Now it is believed that Tottenham Hotspur have already started working on their seventh summer signing by contracting Barcelona to discuss the possibility of landing Depay.

After the Blaugrana signed new forwards Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Depay, who scored 13 goals in 37 appearances for the team last season, might be allowed to move on. The Dutchman seems to be a luxury rather than a necessity for the Catalan team right now.

Depay, who concluded his debut year as the Catalan club’s top scorer, may feel that FC Barcelona undervalues his contribution. The Dutchman is currently in the penultimate year of his contract with the club as he only signed a two-year deal when he joined Barcelona last summer.

Considering his recent performances, Depay seems to be a valuable striker who can give Tottenham top-class backup options whenever in need.

However, with the addition of former Everton and Watford winger Richarlison on a five-year deal, as well as Ivan Perisic, Spurs have already strengthened their attacking options.

Tottenham won’t need to hunt for an attacking reinforcement during the summer transfer unless Lucas Moura also departs the club. Whether they are willing to still go out and make a punt for Depay remains to be seen.

Depay recently made comments in which he frankly stated that he wanted to remain at Camp Nou beyond the summer transfer window. Spurs may have a difficult time convincing the player to leave Barcelona anyway.
