Transfer News: Sergio Reguilon ‘will never’ leave Tottenham Hotspur for Barcelona

It was claimed by Mundo Deportivo (h/t the Express) on Wednesday that Tottenham Hotspur offered Sergio Reguilon to Barcelona on a loan deal.

But those claims have been shut down by another Spanish outlet. Sport (h/t the Express) claim that the Spaniard ‘will never’ play for the Catalan giants due to his love for Real Madrid. They instead prefer to sign Marcos Alonso from Chelsea.

The Madrid-born left-back joined Spurs in a £25m deal two years ago. Since then, he hasn’t made himself an irreplaceable part of Tottenham’s team.

That is especially the case under Antonio Conte. The Italian manager doesn’t seem to have Reguilon in his plans, with the defender not picked for the club’s pre-season tour earlier this month.

Whatever his next destination may be, it is very unlikely that it would be Camp Nou. The club have apparently ‘vetoed’ any possibility of signing the former Los Blancos star.

Ivan Perisic joined Spurs on a free transfer earlier this summer. The ex-Inter Milan left-winger knows Antonio Conte well during their time in Serie A.

From what it looks like, the veteran Croatian could be our left wing-back going into the next season, with Ryan Sessegnon playing backup to him. If that is the case, it truly would be the end of the road for Reguilon at N17.

Hopefully, this transfer saga comes to an end soon because it doesn’t make sense for Spurs to have a player on their books that they seemingly don’t require.
