Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signing Ivan Perisic ‘personally’ phoned Joe Rodon to request number 14 jersey
According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur newboy Ivan Perisic personally phoned Joe Rodon in order to request him to vacate the number 14 jersey.
The Croatian international has previously worn that jersey number at Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund. For his national team, however, he has been seen donning the number 4 jersey in recent years.
Rodon, the Welsh defender not favoured by Antonio Conte for regular playing time last season, will now wear number 22. That is if he still stays at N17 come the end of the transfer window.
According to Calciomercato (h/t the Express), Spurs offered him as a makeweight to AS Roma in a deal for Nicolo Zaniolo. While the offer was rejected by Jose Mourinho’s side, it indicates that Rodon is considered expendable.
Alasdair Gold, as shown in the tweet above, also confirmed that Djed Spence will take up the number 24 shirt. He will follow in the footsteps of Serge Aurier, who was our #24 until his move to Villarreal last year.
Clement Lenglet joined Tottenham on loan from Barcelona and is set to take the number 34 kit. That number has apparently been vacant since Stephen Kelly wore it in the 2004/05 season.
Perisic getting his chosen number shows the kind of role he
can expect. The former Inter star is expected by many to be a regular for Antonio Conte as a left-wing-back.More Tottenham Hotspur News
