Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin is ‘real’
According to transfer news on ChronicleLive, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea’s interest in Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin is ‘real’.
The 25-year-old Frenchman joined the Magpies from OGC Nice in the summer of 2019 and since then has had an eventful time with the St James’ Park outfit. After the Saudi takeover, Newcastle made some big moves in January.
They also have the ambitious Eddie Howe in charge of things. That raises the question if they would want to sell one of their brightest players when they aim to become one of English football’s ‘top six’ teams.
It is said that the winger has ‘at least’ been looked at by both teams’ talent spotters in the recent past. If that is true, then the deal would make little sense for Spurs right now.
Should Spurs sign ASM?
At 25, Saint-Maximin would naturally want regular football and through that, a way into Didier Deschamps’ France team. He is no longer a youth prospect and is entering the prime years of his career.
Can Spurs provide him with that? It is hard to tell. We already have the likes of Son Heung-min, Harry Kane, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura, and Ivan Perisic in attack.
The latter is expected to play as a left wing-back but he is more than comfortable playing on the wings as well. It is hard to see where Saint-Maximin would fit in the picture.

It is believed that there is nothing concrete from both the
London teams in terms of signing Saint-Maximin this summer. That only makes sense, as Spurs are better off focusing on a new centre-back, which is a position that can do with some strengthening right about now.
