Official: Ben Davies signs new Tottenham Hotspur contract until 2025

As confirmed by the official club website, Ben Davies has signed a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur. The Welsh defender was one of our most crucial players last season.

Davies was trusted in a back three by Antonio Conte ever since he replaced Nuno Espirito Santo. He was especially vital in the last couple of months of the season as Spurs won important games and made the top four.

His earlier contract was set to expire in 2024 but he has now signed a one-year extension and will stay at N17 until 2025. This comes as a big show of faith from Conte and an indication of what may be in store for us next season.

Davies was largely seen as a makeshift solution in our backline until we had a natural centre-back lining up alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero. Davies, in all honesty, was a solid presence at the back.

Good news for Spurs

He hasn’t done anything wrong to be ousted from the first-team picture. The left-wing-back position could be Ivan Perisic’s from next season so it remains to be seen what Conte is planning for his backline.

Clement Lenglet has arrived on a season-long loan from Barcelona and would also want to play most games. Nevertheless, it is important for the club to maintain strength in depth, which is where Davies would be useful.

Spurs will be playing in the UEFA Champions League next season and would need a strong squad to be able to compete on all fronts. Davies’ presence would be helpful in that regard.

More Tottenham Hotspur News

After arriving from Swansea in 2014, Davies has played in 271 games for the club. Such kind of experience always comes in handy on big occasions and there is a lot that youngsters like Ryan Sessegnon and Djed Spence can learn from the 29-year-old in the training ground.
