Villarreal in talk with Tottenham Hotspur for Giovani Lo Celso
According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham Hotspur is the player Unai Emery’s Villarreal have made their top priority this summer.
The Argentine is an excellent football player when in his top form. Although he can score goals, create chances, and pass the ball well, he hasn’t been able to do so consistently throughout his tenure at Spurs and it has created a tense situation regarding his future at the club.
After taking over the club last season, Antonio Conte offered him a few opportunities, but Lo Celso just wasn’t what he was looking for. He purposely pushed him out of the club as a result.
The 26-year-old was loaned to Villarreal in January where he excelled. The Spanish team are now eager to sign him to a long-term contract.
Despite the fact that Lo Celso is only 26 years old and ready to enter his prime, Tottenham and Conte don’t appear to have any interest in keeping him. It became even more obvious that Lo Celso has no future at the club when the Italian left him out of Spurs’ preseason trip to South Korea earlier this month.
The midfielder is almost certain to depart Tottenham this summer, and Villarreal is very, very eager to sign him. The Spanish team have now begun ‘direct negotiations’ with Tottenham in an effort to finalise a deal in the upcoming weeks. However, they might not have a free run as there are other interested parties too.
Lo Celso showed in the second half of last season what a great player he is. The Argentine was a key factor in the Yellow Submarine’s Champions League elimination of Bayern Munich last year, so it is not surprising that they want him back.

Three years remain on Lo Celso’s deal with Tottenham. Although Spurs have made it plain that they no longer want him, they should use his performance as leverage to negotiate a favourable transfer fee.
Although it is a shame that Lo Celso’s time at Tottenham didn’t work out. It will be intriguing to see where he ends up this summer.
