Transfer News: Tottenham set to reignite interest in Nikola Milenkovic
According to Italian outlet La Nazione (h/t Express), Tottenham have rekindled their interest in long-time transfer target Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina and have entered talks to sign the talented Serbian defender.
Milenkovic was a player who was heavily linked with a move to N17 back last summer with a transfer battle emerging between West Ham and Spurs but a move for the talented centre-back never materialised.
A talented defender, Milenkovic has impressed during his time at Fiorentina. He joined the Serie A club from Partizan in 2017 and has since then gone on to establish his quality in the Italian top flight.
The 24-year-old centre-back has had yet another impressive season this time around. The talented Serbian played 38 times for the Serie A club last season scoring three goals across all competitions.
Anyone who has seen Milenkovic play knows that at 195cm in height, the Serbian is a towering presence in the backline who is exceptional at reading the game well, defending one-on-one and shutting out attacks even before it starts.
His height also makes him an added advantage when it comes to set-pieces with the Serbian capable of popping in the odd header from a corner or free-kick. These attributes make him a very solid player.
Spurs have done a decent job reinforcing their back line this summer. They have signed Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona and the Frenchman is expected to be a solid presence in the back line.
Despite a plethora of options, considering Antonio Conte’s penchant for playing with three centre-backs, adding more options in that position is only going to hold the Lilywhites in good stead.
