Transfer News: Giovani Lo Celso edges closer to sealing Villarreal loan transfer
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is close to sealing a loan transfer to Villarreal this summer, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t the Sun).
It is claimed that the Yellow Submarines would have to pay £12.6 million next summer if they then wish to sign the Argentina international permanently. Lo Celso was left behind by Spurs when they travelled to Israel this weekend.
The Lilywhites lost 1-0 to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in Haifa but Lo Celso played no part in that game. It is clear that Spurs see him as an expendable player ahead of the new season.
It was at Villarreal where the 26-year-old midfielder shone last season. He was a vital part of Unai Emery’s side that reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
What next for Lo Celso?
La Liga is where he has succeeded the most throughout his individual career. His spell at Real Betis convinced Spurs to spend £29 million on him two years ago.
But things haven’t worked out since then. Lo Celso has played under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo, Ryan Mason, and Conte during his stint at N17.
However, his performances during that time haven’t been anything to write home about. It remains to be seen if a temporary loan move to Villarreal can be completed this summer.

With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, Lo Celso knows that getting regular minutes under his belt will strengthen his case to be in Lionel Scaloni’s starting XI in November.
