Transfer News: Tottenham ‘loosely’ in the race to sign Inter defender Milan Skriniar
According to Ben Jacobs of CBSSports (h/t the Express), Tottenham Hotspur are ‘loosely’ in the race to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakia international has been linked with a move to Spurs this summer but no deal has materialised as of now. With the new Premier League season just days away, teams would be getting desperate to get in the signings they need.
However, Spurs are just ‘loosely’ involved in the running for Skriniar. The 27-year-old joined I Nerazzurri in 2017 from Sampdoria and has since developed as one of the finest centre-backs in Italian football.
It is easy to see why Spurs are still in the running to sign him. He is in the prime years of his career and is well acquainted with Antonio Conte’s philosophy and tactics.
Spurs should make a move
The two combined to great effect in Serie A where Skriniar was one of the cornerstones of Conte’s Scudetto-winning team. Spurs have already signed Clement Lenglet this summer.
However, the Frenchman has joined us on a season-long loan from Barcelona and is not a permanent addition to our backline. Moreover, his time at Camp Nou has been below-par and he isn’t really right there at the top when it comes to world-class defenders.
Skriniar arguably is. If Spurs still retain an interest in Skriniar, they would be wise to break the bank for him.

He can lead our backline for a number of years to come. Along with Cristian Romero, he can make a solid partnership at the back but it remains to be seen if the financial aspect of any potential deal would interest Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici.
