Transfer News: Tottenham set to accept Villarreal bid for Giovani Lo Celso

According to Marca (h/t Football. London), Spurs are set to accept Spanish club Villarreal’s bid for talented Argentinian midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.

Lo Celso does not find himself in Antonio Conte’s plans for next season and das been asked to find a new club. The Lilywhites are actively looking for a buyer to ship out the midfielder this summer.

The Argentinian international spent last season out on loan at Villarreal and really impressed for the Yellow Submarine. Lo Celso was a key player for Unai Emery as the Spanish club made a surprising Champions League semi-final run.

The 26-year-old midfielder played 40 times for the La Liga club last season scoring two goals and providing three assists across all competitions. His impressive performances really won the plaudits.

It also means that the midfielder now firmly finds himself in Lionel Scaloni’s plans in the national team and it is very likely that he finds a place in the team for the Qatar World cup later this year.

Despite the career renaissance that he has had last season, Conte does not seem too keen on including the 26-year-old midfielder in his plans but he has the ability to be a key player for other teams.

Villarreal have supposedly proposed a season-long loan for Lo Celso, which includes an obligation to buy him for £13m in the summer of 2023. Spurs are said to be willing to accept the fee.

It will be a downgrade on the fee that we paid for him those years back to sign him from Real Betis but we are struggling to ship out the players that we don’t count on and the money that we get will be useful.

Lo Celso at Spurs never really worked out. However, he is a quality player who can succeed elsewhere.
