Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane backed to outscore Erling Haaland
Speaking on The Overlap (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United legend Gary Neville backed Harry Kane to outscore Manchester City’s summer signing Erling Haaland this season.
The Norwegian star left Borussia Dortmund this summer to join the Etihad outfit after his £51million release clause was activated. He comes on the back of a brilliant season in Germany, where he scored 29 goals in 30 games across all competitions.
Despite a slow start under Nuno Espirito Santo, Kane picked up the pace and ended the season with 27 goals and 10 assists in 50 games for Spurs. Both strikers know what it is like to win Golden Boots and they will be battling for it in the upcoming season.
Kane, at 29, is much more experienced than the 22-year-old Haaland. Neville believes that the England international will end the season with more goals than City’s new signing.
“Kane. I’m just more sure of it. I’m more sure that Harry will hit a number. I don’t know what Haaland is going to do. It could be 40 but it could be 18, 20 – I don’t know.”
It could be Neville’s allegiance to Man United impacting his call but it isn’t right to label his judgement biased. After all, it makes a lot of sense given Kane’s experience in England.
This is Haaland’s first season in the Premier League and it remains to be seen how he will react to it. He had
a very poor debut against Liverpool in the Community Shield, a game his team went on to lose by a 3-1 scoreline.Kane has some backup in Richarlison this season but it can be said for sure that the Everton man will not replace the Englishman in our lineup.
