Ralph Hasenhuttl gives Southampton injury updates for Tottenham clash
Tottenham Hotspur start off their Premier League campaign on 6 August at home against Southampton. In a recent press conference, Ralph Hasenhuttl gave an insight into the team he could start against Spurs tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters (h/t HampshireLive), the Austrian manager hinted that full-back Romain Perraud could be in contention to take on Antonio Conte’s men. The Frenchman suffered a leg injury recently but returned to face AS Monaco at St. Mary’s.
“He had an injury last season and missed some parts of the pre-season – I think nearly half of the time he missed. But the last two weeks he was training and so he’s now coming closer to being an option. And that’s a good thing.”
Wingers Nathan Tella and Theo Walcott are not in contention to play against Tottenham tomorrow. The former is back in training but Hasenhuttl doesn’t want to rush him back soon.
The former Arsenal winger, meanwhile, is still not training with his team and will sit on the sidelines tomorrow. The Saints made several signings this summer but their manager is open to starting just a few.
“We have seen it in the past that some players need a year to adapt to the PL, some are so good that it goes quicker. So we will not see all the new signings immediately from the start, they are young, they have to learn, but one or the other will get the chance to play immediately.”
Southampton have signed Gavin Bazunu, Mateusz Lis, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Romeo Lavia, Joe Aribo, and Sekou Mara so far. Spurs have themselves been active in the transfer window and signed six players.
Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, and Clement Lenglet perhaps have a strong chance to feature in some capacity tomorrow. Yves Bissouma continues to recover from his injury while Fraser Forster and Djed Spence could have to wait for their debut starts.

The Mali international is a doubt for the game while 21-year-old Oliver Skipp is sure to miss the Premier League opener at N17 tomorrow after a freak injury in training. The Saints took four points from Spurs last season, drawing 1-1 at St. Mary’s and winning 3-2 at our home ground.
