Tottenham Hotspur spar Dejan Kulusevski admits that he wants to become better after Southampton win

It looks like Tottenham Hotspur fans will be chanting Dejan Kulusevski’s name a lot this season. The 22-year-old Swedish international was on fire when Antonio Conte’s men routed Southampton 4-1 in their opening matchday on Saturday.

The player scored one and assisted another as his team made it look easy against the Saints. But the player wants to remain humble and improve his game further. In an interview published on Football. London, he showed huge maturity for his age.

“For me, I have to grow. I have to get better in every way. I want to become a better football player so I have got to keep listening to my fantastic coach, be humble and keep living my dream.”

His ambition and willingness to improve will come as good news to Conte, who begins his first full season as Spurs head coach. And he got off to a resounding start.

The Swede joined Tottenham in January earlier this year and quickly became a fan favourite. He has cemented himself as a starter in Conte’s side after scoring five goals and getting eight assists in 18 league games last season.

He seems to have continued where he left off as he was one of the best players on the pitch in the last game. Apart from his goal involvements, the player pressed very well and looked dangerous throughout.

Kulusevski could have one of the best seasons of his career if he keeps this form. Conte will be proud to have such a versatile and hungry player in his squad. At just 22, he has a long career ahead of him.

New signings Ivan Perisic, Yves Bissouma and Clement Lenglet also made their debuts. They all came on as substitutes as Tottenham showed that they have the capability to finish at the top this season.

Conte will hope his team can carry their good form onto their next game. The Spurs travel to Stamford Bridge next Sunday for a derby game against Chelsea.

More Tottenham News:

Richarlison is expected to be back in contention for that game and it remains to be seen if the former Everton star will slot into the starting XI or Kulusevski will retain his spot on the right flank.
