Transfer News: Chelsea table huge offer for Tottenham Hotspur target Anthony Gordon
According to Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have tabled a huge £40million offer for Everton star Anthony Gordon, who has been heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
He has also been linked with a move to newly-rich Newcastle United. The 21-year-old had an impressive spell with the Toffees last season where he featured in 35 league games.
He has also played the full 90 minutes in both of Everton’s league games this season. Spurs have signed the likes of Ivan Perisic, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison in attack under Antonio Conte.
However, a youngster like Gordon can future-proof our attack to a huge extent. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane continue to go strong but they can’t keep playing forever.
Gordon to Chelsea?
And this is why Blues’ apparent bid for Gordon should worry Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici if they continue to retain an interest in the Englishman. Chelsea have had issues up front of their own.
Timo Werner has returned to RB Leipzig on a permanent transfer and Romelu Lukaku is on loan at Inter Milan until the end of this season. They may have signed Raheem Sterling but the lack of an experienced out-and-out striker persists.
Gordon isn’t that, but it seems that Thomas Tuchel is still open to having him at Stamford Bridge. It remains to be seen how the Toffees will respond to that bid.
It is a big price tag for a young player with little experience in the Premier League. His output wasn’t out of the world last season, as he managed a paltry return of four goals and two assists in the league.
