Manchester United ready to sell Tottenham Hotspur transfer target James Garner
In more bizarre news coming out of Old Trafford, Manchester United are ready to listen to offers for James Garner, a player that Tottenham Hotspur have apparently watched.
That is according to Laurie Whitwell of the Athletic (Subscription Required), who claims that the midfielder could leave Old Trafford on a permanent transfer this summer. He was loaned to Nottingham Forest last summer, where he helped them gain promotion to the Premier League.
Garner scored four goals and provided 10 assists for the Tricky Trees in 46 appearances across all competitions. United’s need for a central midfielder has been evident all summer.
Not only have they seen Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard leave this summer, but they have hit a brick wall in the pursuit of Frenkie de Jong. And that is why news of them wanting to permanently offload Garner comes as a surprise.
A smart move for Spurs?
The Red Devils apparently value him at £14million and will be open to offers in that price bracket. Everton, Southampton and Leeds United have shown interest in Garner.
If the Red Devils are ready to offload the 21-year-old with a little over two weeks to go in the transfer window, he is, perhaps, not rated highly by Erik ten Hag.
Despite United being overrun in midfield against both Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford in the past week, Garner remained an unused substitute in both games. For Spurs, this signing makes sense to some extent.
