Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham Hotspur chose Destiny Udogie over Pervis Estupinan of Villarreal
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur had Destiny Udogie above Villarreal’s Pervis Estupinan on their transfer wishlist this summer.
Spurs are believed to have come to an agreement to sign the Italy U21 international this month. He is expected to be announced as the club’s seventh summer signing soon but will be loaned back to Udinese for the current season.
A five-year contract has supposedly been agreed between the player and the Lilywhites. Still just 19, he made a big impression in Serie A last season, scoring five goals and providing three assists in 35 league games.
Udogie was even left out of Udinese’s matchday squad in their recent 4-2 loss against AC Milan, where Adam Masina was seen playing at left wing-back. Spurs also had Estupinan on their radar.
The right move?
The 24-year-old Ecuador international has been an important part of Unai Emery’s set-up at the Ceramica. A left-back by trade, it won’t make sense for Spurs to sign him once they announce Udogie’s arrival.
The Lilywhites are not devoid of options down that flank right now. Ivan Perisic was signed on a free transfer while Ryan Sessegnon has started both of our league games so far.
As of now, Sergio Reguilon is still on our books even if Antonio Conte isn’t picking him for our recent games. It is clear Udogie is a signing made for the future while Spurs figure out who their best left-wing-back option is.

If we signed Estupinan, we may not have had the time to ease him in as we do with the former Hellas Verona left-back. All in all, Spurs seem to have made a wise choice and hopefully, the Italian manager has once again scouted a gem from Serie A for Spurs.
