Tottenham Hotspur appoint Leonardo Gabbanini as new chief scout as part of backroom revamp

According to the Evening Standard, Leonardo Gabbanini is the new chief scout at Tottenham Hotspur after he left his dual role at Watford and Udinese this May.

He is part of a major backroom revamp that is taking place under sporting director Fabio Paratici. Ex-Everton technical director Gretar Steinsson has joined us in the capacity of performance director while Rangers’ scout Andy Scoulding has also been appointed at N17.

Watford and Udinese, owned by Gino Pozzo and his family, appointed Gabbanini before his appointment at Spurs. If we narrow things down, then Gabbanini has basically replaced Brian Carey while Steinsson has taken over Steven Hitchen’s role – both of whom have left the club recently.

Spurs, meanwhile, are primed to announce Destiny Udogie’s arrival from Udinese as their seventh signing this summer for a fee in the region of £15million.

Spurs on the rise

As for the changes in Antonio Conte’s backroom staff, it becomes clear that the club is still in the phase of transition. On the pitch, the former Inter Milan has signed players like Ivan Perisic and Richarlison to implement his identity better on this Spurs team.

Off it, Paratici seems to be preparing a backroom staff best suited to transition Spurs from being ‘nearly-theres’ to champions. Things seem to be falling in place already for us.

We ran riot against Southampton on the opening weekend of the season, scoring four past them after James Ward-Prowse’s opener. A 96th-minute goal against Chelsea this Sunday meant the points were shared in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.
