Why Ronaldo was in attendance for Tottenham Hotspur’s clash vs Wolves

According to Football.London, Ronaldo Nazario was in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday to watch Spurs take on Wolves as a guest of Nike.

Nike have their own box at the stadium as they are a kit supplier of the team until 2033. It was a mesmerising moment for fans of both teams to watch the Brazilian legend in the stadium.

Tottenham’s official Twitter account posted a photo of ‘R9′ holding Spurs’ home kit with his name and number written on the back. The 1997 and 2002 Ballon d’Or winner had the chance to watch some of his compatriots on the pitch in our 1-0 win.

Our very own ‘R9’, Richarlison, came on as a late substitute but still managed to get the crowd on their feet every time he had the ball. Emerson Royal, meanwhile, started his third game in a row this season at right-wing-back.

The game was a story of two halves for Tottenham. They were largely unimpressive in the first half of the game but came back a changed team for the second 45 minutes.

No one embodied Spurs’ transformation on either side of the half-time whistle better than Ivan Perisic. The Croat was scintillating to watch in the 30 minutes he played during the second half.

He was creating chances down the flank and was dropping back to defend as well. He had Wolves’ Pedro Neto struggling to find space down that side while Perisic was hugging the touchline to stretch Spurs’ attack and create space for his attackers in the final third.

He made his presence in the 64th minute when he flicked a Son Heung-min corner straight into the path of unmarked Harry Kane, who had the easy task of heading the ball in from close range.

Speaking after the game, Conte praised Perisic (h/t Football.London). He acknowledged that the former Inter Milan star struggled in the first half but that he proceeded to do well until his substitution in the 75th minute for Ryan Sessegnon.

“He struggled in the first half, with the rest of the team he improved a lot. I have seen the Ivan Perisic I know from Inter. When we were together at Inter. For us he is very important because we are talking about a player with a great experience. A player that won a lot in his past, has played in an important team. He can bring experience.”

Spurs now face Nottingham Forest away from home on August 28 as they look to make it 10 points from four league games this season.
