Transfer News: Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech prefers a move to Tottenham Hotspur

According to Johan Derksen via Vandaag Inside (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech is said to prefer a move to Tottenham Hotspur, rather than return to Ajax.

Earlier this week, Dutch outlet AD had reported that Ajax were interested in bringing back Ziyech, who is also of interest to Manchester United. The 29-year-old joined the Blues from the Dutch side in 2020 for £33 million.

And now ex-Eredivisie star Derksen believes the Moroccan prefers to stay in the Premier League, rather than returning back to the Netherlands.

I can imagine that he would prefer Tottenham because he still wants to succeed in England. If you could play for Tottenham or play against Sparta [Rotterdam], RKC or Go Ahead [Eagles], then you go there [to Tottenham], right?

Ziyech moved to England two years ago, but has failed to live up to his hype. Despite winning the Champions League in his first season with the west London club, he has failed to establish himself in his team.

The 29-year-old has struggled for game-time under Thomas Tuchel. The arrival of Raheem Sterling has also pushed him further down the pecking order. Antonio Conte is looking to sign a player to compete with Dejan Kulusevski on the right side.

And Ziyech fits that bill perfectly. An attacking midfielder, who is usually deployed as a right-winger, the Chelsea man would be a very good fit for Spurs. The midfielder can play very threatening balls into the box, something that Harry Kane can feast upon.

But he is a rival player. Whether Chelsea will want to strengthen their direct rivals not in the league but also in Europe, remains to be seen. Less than a week remains before the transfer window closes, and Conte will be wise to secure a deal now.

Tottenham, meanwhile, will hope to continue their good start to the season. They travel this Sunday to face Nottingham Forest and fans will hope they come back with the three points. Whether Ziyech will make the switch in the remaining days, remains to be seen.
