Antonio Conte praises Tottenham Hotspur for being mentally strong after win over Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has praised the team for being headstrong in the win over Nottingham Forest. The Italian admitted the game was tough and lauded the Spurs for showing character.

The North London side have now won three of the first four fixtures of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign. We dropped two points on our visit to Stamford Bridge.

Speaking after the game against the Tricky Trees via the Express, Conte talked about the abundance of competition in the PL. He called for every game to be a “sporting war” for Spurs.

“In the Premier League there are top teams who want to try to fight. It’s always a sporting war. After a game there’s a winner and a loser. Every game has to be a sporting war for us.”

Tottenham appointed the Italian gaffer in the middle of last season after the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo. Conte came in and helped the team secure a top four berth amidst competition from North London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs showed heart to finish fourth in the table in the previous campaign. The Italian had Harry Kane back to his best after his early season struggles.

The team have shown similar heart at the start of the new campaign. Even though we haven’t performed our best, the side have managed to get results. And Conte believes Tottenham are becoming more and more resilient after the Forest game.

“It was really intense. There was a lot of noise around the pitch. To play here is not easy, with the crowd against you. If you are strong mentally you survive in this type of situation. The players are improving in their resilience and also learning to suffer together.”

The Chelsea game was an indication of a shift in mentality at Spurs. Over the years, fans have felt the side have gone into their shells during adversity. However, we fought until the end against the Blues and snatched a point.

Similarly, against the Tricky Trees, we weathered the storm and got the three points from the City Ground. The West Bridgford side were relentless in periods of the game; however, we resolutely defended our lead.
