Tottenham’s ‘bargain’ signing off to a flying start on loan in Serie A

Loan Watch: Tottenham loanee Destiny Udogie off to a flying start with Udinese

Tottenham Hotspur full-back, Destiny Udogie, who is on loan at Udinese for the 2022/23 campaign, has gotten off to a flying start in Serie A.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, the North London side were adamant about tying down the 19-year-old’s transfer this summer. Spurs were wary of the interest that the Italian would garner next summer.

Tottenham paid Le Zebrette €18 million guaranteed fees for Udogie. There are further additional fees the North London side has included in the deal. Spurs will pay another €2 million in easy add-ons and another €5 million for conditions that are difficult to reach.

The 19-year-old plays out on the left, usually as a wing-back. The Italian’s strengths are his dribbling and his will to go into tackles.

Udogie has started the new season on a high note. The youngster has started every game for Udinese in Serie A, scoring two goals. Le Zebrette have themselves been impressive, remaining unbeaten in the league.

The Italy U21 international had a breakout campaign in the previous season. Udogie featured 37 times for Udinese, scoring five goals and assisting three.

At Tottenham for the time being, the left-wing-back position is in safe hands. Ivan Perisic arrived on a free transfer earlier in the summer. The 33-year-old is an experienced head, having won multiple major trophies.

Alongside the Croatian, Antonio Conte also has the option of calling on Ryan Sessegnon. The 22-year-old has been afforded a lot of game time by the Italian since his arrival in the Spurs dugout.

Udogie is definitely one for the future. With Perisic in his 30s, Tottenham have secured a top talent for the left-wing-back position with the 19-year-old’s signing. Hopefully, the Italian is able to fulfil his potential in N17.
