Romano: 25-year-old star chose to join Tottenham despite hijack attempt from London rivals

Chelsea tried to hijack Richarlison’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur by using Thiago Silva

According to Fabrizio Romano via his YouTube channel (h/t Yahoo Sports), Chelsea tried to hijack Richarlison’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur with Thiago Silva trying to tempt the forward.

Silva and Richarlison are both Brazilians having played for their country together. The Blues were in search of an attacker and both the London clubs were interested in Richarlison.

“Chelsea tried to hijack the deal. They tried in a very serious way, also with, I am told, Thiago Silva trying to tempt the player. But Richarlison made his decision, he wanted to join Tottenham. Everything was ready between clubs.”

Chelsea even made a bid to the Toffees, but the best proposal was from the north London club. The 25-year-old ultimately joined Spurs and is now proving to be worth the money.

Richarlison moved to north London for £50 million with another £10million in add-ons. The forward has played in five league games this season, starting in only one of them.

He was fantastic last time out against Fulham and found the back of the net. However, his goal was ruled out for offside. Nevertheless, the Brazil international impressed everyone, including Antonio Conte.

He is now in contention to start the game against Marseille in the Champions League today (Wednesday). The 25-year-old formed a very good link-up with many players, but the most notable one with Harry Kane.

It was a wise decision on the player’s part to move to north London over west London. Spurs are unbeaten in the league and have performed better than their rivals Chelsea, so far in the season.

With the Blues trying to hijack the transfer would indicate the top player that the forward is. Fans will hope that the 25-year-old performs very well this season so that they can rub it into their rivals’ faces.

For now, it remains to be seen if he will start against Marseille in the UEFA Champions League group game tonight. Perhaps he started in our last league game so he could be benched once again but then again, it’s anyone’s guess as to what Conte’s starting XI will be tonight.
