Tottenham Hotspur’s Richarlison gets important Brazil call-up before World Cup

Richarlison signed for Tottenham Hotspur from Everton this summer with a view of taking his career to another level. He was finally handed his first start for the club against Fulham, and he did not disappoint, providing an assist in a 2-1 win for us.

Spurs, who are playing in the UEFA Champions League this season, would have been a natural ‘next step’ for the striker after fighting relegation in the last campaign with the Toffees.

And the Brazil international is making the most of the opportunities he is getting. With the FIFA World Cup coming in November, each squad announced before it assumes great importance.

Brazil manager Tite has announced his final squad before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and it features the 25-year-old Spurs forward. Our rivals, Arsenal see three of their players miss out as Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gabriel Martinelli have all been overlooked (h/t The Athletic) [Subscription Required].

Big moment for Richarlison

The squad has been announced for the two friendly games that take place this month, with the Selecao taking on Ghana on September 23 and then Tunisia four days later. Both games will take place in France.

Richarlison’s recent form would have certainly played a role in Tite making his decision. Whenever the former Watford man was subbed on for us this season, he looked impressive.

He got an assist in the game against Nottingham Forest and then one against the Cottagers. His headline moment came in the UEFA Champions League group stage game against Marseille earlier this week, where he scored two headers in our 2-0 win at home.

Richarlison was called up to the squad for Brazil’s friendlies against South Korea and Japan in June earlier this year. He is yet to travel with the Brazilian team to any FIFA World Cup tournament but was present in their Copa America journeys in 2019 and 2021.

He would hope to see his name in the 26-man shortlist that Tite picks in the coming weeks before the World Cup. Richarlison is certainly making the right impression at the right time in that regard.
