Injury News: Antonio Conte rules out Tottenham attacker Lucas Moura for Sporting CP clash

Speaking at the pre-match press conference (h/t Football.London) ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash against Sporting CP, Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte stated that Lucas Moura could return only after the international break.

The Brazil international has been out of action due to a recent calf injury and it seems that he won’t play a part in any of Spurs’ two games before the international break. Conte said:

“No difference compared to the last game [When asked about team news]. Only Lucas Moura is still out. His recovery is going well but I think we’ll probably see him after the international break. The others are all available.”

Spurs play against Sporting CP in Lisbon tonight in their second group game of this season’s Champions League. Then, they take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League.

Lucas to be back after international break?

Tottenham lost Steven Bergwijn to Ajax Amsterdam in the summer but signed Richarlison from Everton and Ivan Perisic on a free transfer after his contract expired at Inter Milan.

Conte won’t be devoid of options when picking his team tonight. He would already have the headache of choosing who to partner with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in attack – the in-form Richarlison or Dejan Kulusevski.

The former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) star, Lucas, was the main man behind Spurs’ most memorable night in Europe. He scored all three goals in our second-leg semi-final comeback against Ajax Amsterdam in the 2018-19 season.

More Tottenham News:

His experience and incision down the flanks would be something that we would miss having on our bench. Hopefully, he is back for selection by the time we travel to the Emirates to take on Arsenal on October 1 in the North London derby.
