According to Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have withdrawn left-back Ben Davies from international duty after the Wales international suffered a hairline fracture below his knee recently.
He soldiered on to play the full 90 minutes against Sporting CP in a 2-0 UEFA Champions League group stage loss despite a knock midway through the first half. However, he missed the clash against Leicester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium owing to his injury.
He is now facing a short spell on the sidelines and has been withdrawn from Wales’ international squad. However, Wales FA are yet to make an announcement on the matter.
Joe Rodon, who was loaned out to Rennes this summer by Spurs, has also made Robert Page’s squad for the two UEFA Nations League games this month. Cymru are set to take on Belgium in Brussels on September 22 before hosting Poland on September 25 in Cardiff.
Spurs did not miss Davies in their latest Premier League win. The Lilywhites steamrolled Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester on Saturday and won via a 6-2 scoreline.
Davinson Sanchez, who came in for Cristian Romero, conceded the penalty which allowed Youri Tielemans to open the scoring. Clement Lenglet also had a decent game while Conte flexed his left-wing-back options by starting both Ryan Sessegnon and Ivan Perisic.
The Croatia international replaced Emerson Royal down the right flank as the Brazil international was dropped to the bench. Luckily, Davies has the international break to rest and recover.
Spurs are scheduled to take on Arsenal in the north London derby in the league on October 1. Hopefully, the former Swansea City is fit to make our matchday squad by then.
