Tottenham’s summer target says it’s a “sigh of relief” when transfer windows are shut

Spurs News: Leicester City midfielder James Maddison ‘relieved’ transfer window is shut after Tottenham links

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Evening Standard), Leicester City star James Maddison said that it is a bit of a ‘sigh of relief’ when transfer windows are shut, with the midfielder subject of interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

The Magpies submitted several bids for the England international while Spurs were also linked with a move to sign the 25-year-old midfielder. However, Maddison ended up staying at the King Power Stadium.

Influential defender Wesley Fofana departed for Chelsea, much to the dismay of manager Brendan Rodgers, while Youri Tielemans ended up staying despite serious links to Arsenal.

For Maddison, it seems like he is relieved that the circus has finally been brought to a close — at least until January, when it all begins once again. He said:

“After it shuts, I think there is a bit of a sigh of relief, especially some of the staff at football clubs. I think it definitely can be [a chance for others to shine after a lack of Leicester signings]. In tough times, you need your big players and your top players to grab the team. And stick the team on your back, at times.”

Maddison is now in the final two years of his contract with the Foxes. This is where clubs – in the case, Leicester – would start to worry a little when it comes to a player of Maddison’s quality.

It can’t be said for sure whether Spurs will retain their interest in Maddison or not. However, not many Tottenham fans would mind having a player of the former Norwich City star’s age profile and ability at N17.

Conte doesn’t really use an attacking midfielder in his system but Maddison can also play as a central midfielder and out wide. The talent is there and the player has proven himself in the PL.

More Tottenham News:

We can certainly do worse than Maddison if we want to sign a player in that profile.
