Spurs News: Leicester City midfielder James Maddison ‘relieved’ transfer window is shut after Tottenham links
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Evening Standard), Leicester City star James Maddison said that it is a bit of a ‘sigh of relief’ when transfer windows are shut, with the midfielder subject of interest from Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The Magpies submitted several bids for the England international while Spurs were also linked with a move to sign the 25-year-old midfielder. However, Maddison ended up staying at the King Power Stadium.
Influential defender Wesley Fofana departed for Chelsea, much to the dismay of manager Brendan Rodgers, while Youri Tielemans ended up staying despite serious links to Arsenal.
For Maddison, it seems like he is relieved that the circus has finally been brought to a close — at least until January, when it all begins once again. He said:
“After it shuts, I think there is a bit of a sigh of relief, especially some of the staff at football clubs. I think it definitely can be [a chance for others to shine after a lack of Leicester signings]. In tough times, you need your big players and your top players to grab the team. And stick the team on your back, at times.”
Maddison is now in the final two years of his contract with the Foxes. This is where clubs – in the case, Leicester – would start to worry a little when it comes to a player of Maddison’s quality.
