Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon reveals Gareth Bale advice before Rennes loan

According to WalesOnline, Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Joe Rodon took the decision to move to Stade Rennais on loan this summer after conversations with Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale.

Rodon secured a loan move to Rennes after seeing very little action in the past two seasons at the club, especially under manager Antonio Conte. He played in just 10 games during the 2021-22 campaign.

In comparison to that, he has already played nine times in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit this season under manager Bruno Genesio. Speaking in an interview as quoted by WalesOnline, Rodon said that he regularly talks with Bale and Ramsey:

“I speak to them a lot and they give me advice and guidance along the way. I am thankful for that. I can always reach out to them because they are top professionals and brilliant senior players.”

Bale is one of Spurs’ modern-day legends while Ramsey made a name for himself playing for our arch-rivals, Arsenal. The Welsh duo put Welsh football on the map in the modern era and secured high-profile moves away from the Premier League.

Bale joined Real Madrid from Spurs in 2013 while Ramsey left the Gunners from Juventus in 2019. The former found a new club this summer in MLS’ Los Angeles FC while Ramsey joined OFC Nice on loan.

Rodon would want to make Wales’ squad for the FIFA World Cup in November alongside Spurs teammate Ben Davies. He is a shoo-in to be in Robert Page’s final 26-man squad but he understands the importance of playing regularly before such a big tournament.

“Of course, no player wants to be going to a World Cup, having hardly played a minute of football. As everyone is aware, I haven’t played that much over the last two years.”

More Tottenham News:

Rodon has 27 caps for his country and has been selected in their latest squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games this month. They play against Belgium on Thursday before taking on Poland three days later in Cardiff.
