Spurs News: Richarlison explains why he joined Tottenham instead of Arsenal and Chelsea this summer

Speaking in an interview with FourFourTwo (h/t Football.London), Richarlison revealed that Arsenal and Chelsea contacted Everton for his services, but Tottenham Hotspur ended up signing him as they were able to pay the required fee

He also added that a phone call with manager Antonio Conte was also a vital factor in his decision to join Spurs. The Brazil international joined Tottenham from Everton this summer for a fee in the region of £60million.

Richarlison said:

“Antonio Conte called me during the negotiations and expressed how much he’d like to have me on board – that was vital for my decision.”

“I know Chelsea made an offer, and I believe Arsenal also contacted Everton to ask about my situation, but Spurs came in and paid the fee, you know? It’s as simple as that.”

The former Watford star also added that Everton needed to raise some money to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. In the end, he joined Spurs and has been a revelation so far.

The Gunners signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in the summer, while the Blues strengthened their attack by adding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona and Raheem Sterling from the Cityzens.

Richarlison has been a brilliant signing

The Brazilian striker has added a very strong safety net for Conte. In fact, he has seemingly displaced Dejan Kulusevski from the pecking order despite being benched in favour of the Sweden international in his first four appearances in Tottenham’s matchday squads.

Richy started against Fulham and Olympique de Marseille and made telling contributions in both those games. He assisted in the match against the Cottagers in a 2-1 win and scored a brace against the French outfit in the UEFA Champions League.

He was not effective, like most of his teammates, in the 2-0 loss against Sporting CP in Lisbon and was taken off near the hour mark in the 6-2 win against Leicester City. Long story short, he has given our gaffer a wonderful headache to have.

More Tottenham News:

The former Inter Milan manager is spoiled for choices in attack with Lucas Moura also a name to consider after the international break. At 25, Richarlison is just getting started on the big stage and we can expect him to give some of his best years at N17 in the near future.
