Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton in the race to sign Davide Frattesi

Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi, according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t The Shields Gazette).

The 23-year-old midfielder was recently called up to Italy’s squad after Marco Verratti pulled out with an injury. Italy’s No. 7 came on as a substitute in his country’s 1-0 UEFA Nations League win at San Siro.

West Ham United apparently failed to sign him this summer, and would now face competition from the Seagulls and the Lilywhites. Manager Antonio Conte is more than happy to sign talented players from Serie A.

Spurs signed Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus in January. Ivan Perisic left Inter Milan on a free transfer to join Spurs this summer, while Destiny Udogie was purchased from Udinese Calcio.

A wise move for Spurs?

Could Frattesi be the latest name that Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy bring to Spurs from Italy? That is something only time will. He does have a modest valuation of £26million.

At 23, he is just getting started on the big stage. He was signed by I Neroverdi from AS Roma in 2017 and is now an important part of their first-team set-up after a couple of loan spells.

This season, he has two goals in eight games across all competitions. He is, however, tied to a long-term contract that expires only in the summer of 2026 (Transfermarkt).

More Tottenham News:

That interested in watching Frattesi can catch him when Italy take on Hungary in the Nations League on Monday night. It depends on manager Roberto Mancini whether he will play the midfielder against the group leaders.
