Romano: Tottenham and Arsenal targeted North American striker before investing in Richarlison and Jesus

Tottenham and Arsenal targeted striker Jonathan David before Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus transfers

Jonathan David of LOSC Lille Metropole was on the radars of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur before they decided to invest money in Premier League players in Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison respectively.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano, who mentioned about the north London duo’s prior interest in the Canada international in his exclusive CaughtOffside column. He wrote:

“I think after the World Cup his [Jonathan David] situation will be clear, let’s see if January or next summer. Fee could be around €35-40m but also depends on the performances this season.”

“He was on Arsenal and Tottenham list one year ago then they decided to invest on Premier League proven players like Jesus and Richarlison.”

This is a decision both the Gunners and the Lilywhites may not really be regretting right now. We signed Richy from Everton for a big fee – in the region of £60million – and he has started to pay dividends.

The 25-year-old is in the prime years of his career and has provided much-needed depth in our attack. Richarlison scored his first two goals for the club in the 2-0 UEFA Champions League group stage win against Olympique de Marseille.

He took his brilliant form into the international break with Brazil and netted in both their games in September. Jesus, who wasn’t picked for the Selecao by manager Tite this month, has been impressive for Arsenal since his £45m transfer from Manchester City in the summer.

The 25-year-old has netted four times and provided three assists in eight games across competitions for his new team. David, meanwhile, is a sensation in his own right.

More Tottenham News:

The Canadian, who is a shoo-in to make his country’s World Cup squad in November, ended the 2021-22 Ligue 1 season with 15 goals in 18 appearances. Just 22, he could be the next big thing in France and it wouldn’t be a poor idea for Spurs to track his progress.
