Spurs News: Armando Broja details how he left Tottenham Hotspur for Chelsea
Speaking in an interview with the Players Tribunal (h/t Evening Standard), Chelsea striker Armando Broja revealed why he left Chelsea for Tottenham Hotspur several years back.
The Albania striker used to be a player in Spurs’ academy at a very young age but admitted that he was always a Chelsea fan growing up and that he wanted to prove that he was worthy of playing for the Blues.
He recalls taking the pitch for Spurs and scoring nine past the west Londoners, after which he was offered the chance to make the switch. Broja said:
“I was on the bench and then I was begging my manager to come on, ‘please let me, we’re losing 2-0’. As soon as I came on, I got an assist and then I got a goal after that so we drew 2-2.”
“And then we moved over to the other side of the pitch and played the other team. We won 12-0 I think, and I scored nine. Straight after that, the two Chelsea guys came over and said ‘wow, we want you’.”
Broja had a breakthrough campaign with Ralph Hassenhutl’s Southampton last season when he was loaned to the Saints. It’s just a pity that he has blanked in all six games he has played for the Blues in the current campaign.
The 21-year-old Albania international continued:
“When they said that I didn’t think of anything else, I just wanted to join Chelsea. So eventually that obviously did happen and joined Chelsea end of U9s, start of U10s so I’ve been there since then.”
It’s not like he would have been anywhere near Harry Kane in our pecking order right now, especially with the inclusion of Richarlison. He is a decent player but he is yet to do anything to showcase that Spurs end up regretting his departure.
We have our own young strikers – Dane Scarlett and Troy Parrott – ready to impress and make their case. The former is with Portsmouth and the latter, Preston North End – both loan spells. As for Broja, he would do well to get ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the pecking order.
