Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur face Barcelona, Liverpool, and Arsenal challenge in Marco Asensio race

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are in a race with Arsenal, Barcelona, and Liverpool to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid.

The Spain international is in the last year of his contract at the club. If he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal, then he could leave as a free agent in 2023.

This presents a good opportunity for Spurs to bolster multiple positions in one go. Asensio can play as a winger down both flanks, as a second striker and as a number 10.

It also wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world to try him out as a central midfielder given his skill set. Those who have seen him play know all about his vision, passing, and dribbling abilities.

He also has a neat shot on him. Asensio has experience of playing at arguably one of the best teams on the planet in Real Madrid.

However, that hasn’t worked in his favour in recent times as there are players like Federico Valverde, Vinicius Jr, and Rodrygo Goes ahead of him in the pecking order. As a result, the 26-year-old has made just four appearances this season for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

We did Dejan Kulusesvsi, Ivan Perisic and Richarlison under manager Antonio Conte. But still, a player like Asensio can bring a lot of quality and experience for us down the flanks and even centrally.

if he doesn’t renew his deal, then it would be a smart acquisition from a financial standpoint as well. Arsenal have dealt with Real Madrid for midfielders before in the form of Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard.

Hopefully, we are on our toes to not let this opportunity pass us by.
